A great soul singer and an even better songwriter, Tony Joe White's jive-talking southern style could go from grunting backwoods heathen to gruff piano man with ease. His music mined the best of country and the blues, and he fused the two worlds together to make his own brand of soul. "Rainy Night In Georgia" is completely excellent.
