It's odd to think of a narrative filmmaker choosing Sonic Youth for an original soundtrack in the late 2000s; by then, the band's sound was so recognizable as to shake viewers out of a fictional world. But this album of instrumentals makes a nice, unassuming addition to the band's catalog (way more satisfying than their '80s-era soundtrack Made in USA). Fans of A Thousand Leaves need to check this out. And while most of these cues are short, tapering off just where they might normally take off, the closing 13-minute "Theme d'Alice" peaks like it should, and then allows for a bliss-out coda.
