My Own Lane (Expanded Edition)
Label: Tha Alumni Music Group/88 Classic/RCA Records
Kid Ink's second album opens with the impressively loud trumpet call of "The Movement." But the meat of My Own Lane consists of West Coast club raps. Chris Brown's insistent chorus dominates the DJ Mustard-produced "Show Me," as does August Alsina on "We Just Came to Party," and there is talk of freaky ménages on "Tattoo of My Name" and "Iz You Down." Kid Ink may take a cue from Kanye West when he proclaims he's "More Than a King," but "No Option," where he busts Kendrick-like lyrical shots alongside King Los, suggests a more interesting lane that's largely unexplored.
