With "Stagnation," Genesis had their first bona fide moment of genius: nine minutes of muffled acoustic guitars erupt into a Tony Banks run on the Hammond that, while understated, is among the most satisfying deliveries of classic music nerd-ery in '70s prog rock. Peter Gabriel's vocals are restrained but soulful throughout the album. Trespass is one of Genesis' most sonically engaging records thanks to the innovative use of fuzz bass effects and vocal treatments. Check out "The Knife," another high point.
