Hold Me
Emily King

You might not have heard of Emily King, but her sound -- scratched-up old-school soul with a hip, contemporary sheen -- is very familiar, post-Joss Stone and Amy Winehouse. But where Joss's neo-noodling can seem forced and showy, Emily's debut is easy, breezy and effortlessly musical.
And where Amy's retro is dark, messy and self-absorbed, Emily seems bright, stable and socially conscious (see the capitalism-criticizing "Business Man"). In fact, "U & I," with its delightful chorus of "you-o-o-o-hoos," pretty much establishes Emily as the anti-Amy. Maybe you haven't heard of
her. But you will.
