Back in the day, surf rock used to mean Dick Dale, Jan and Dean, and one-piece bathing suits. But oh, how times have changed. As Pass It Around clearly demonstrates, surfers in 2008 don't do the swim. They groove to modern yacht rock: a smooth fusion of John Mayer, Buffett and the Doobies. Heck, nobody has rocked this softly since Michael McDonald circa '78. Frankenreiter even adds touches of pedal steel, blue-eyed funk and mariachi to his California salad. Now that's authentic.
