With its third album, Business Casual, Montreal duo Chromeo returns to its shameless mining of Eighties styles. Shades of Midnight Star and the Dazz Band inform "Hot Mess," while neon synth-rock looms over "Night by Night." Dave One and P-Thugg's tropes depend on excellent songwriting, and they fuel the first half of Business Casual with plenty of gems, particularly the lead single "Don't Turn the Lights On." The second half, however, descends into mediocre kitsch, making the duo's Vocoder-ized trills and blue-eyed croons much less appealing.
