Despite the gothic grandeur, the glitchy beats and morphing bass, unsettling soundscapes and synth scrapings, cavernous echo and tight-lipped murmurs, moody Orange County indie/R&B songwriter Jillian Banks rarely departs from conventional pop constructs on this anticipated debut, her songs crammed with sonic details yet maintaining a minimalistic vibe. Sluggish tempos consign some of these tracks to background music, but listen for the tight beats of highlight "Beggin for Thread," in which Banks teases "I know my disposition gets confusing."
