Hold Me Down
Label: Astralwerks (ASW)
"Sick of all these people talking, sick of all this noise" opens Halsey's foreboding debut, Badlands, and the Astralwerks prodigy seems wary of fame, no matter that she's barely spent much time on the scene. From the spaghetti western sleaze of “Strange Love” to the glistening chorus of breakout single "New Americana," these atmospheric set pieces practically quiver with inner turmoil, while guest producers Lido and Son Lux up the electro-grime ante. And don't overlook Halsey's eye for poetic detail, like when she sells her soul to a three-piece or gripes about survival of the richest.
